Update: Piper Driscoll panel...

During the afternoon panel discussion at DG-06, Piper had made a comment about Driscoll that to some of us sounded a bit off, but It at least didn't let it detract from my learning that weekend. Others did. Among other blogs, challies.com featured the start of an argument between the Piper-backers and the Driscolites: implying that Piper's comment was mean spirited/completely deserved, and that Piper was just jealous/a much better person than Driscoll.

I have two words for the people that so quickly broke into Interweb sectarianism:
Eat it!*

Way to miss the whole point of the conference, Dutch-Bags...

*I would have thrown another word to end that senteance with, but found that I was yet again chastised by the way Dr. Piper spelled out a thought. See my upcoming Smogcast for clarification.

Very nice. Thanks for the link. I like both Driscoll and Piper better than ever now! Which means I am setting myself up for a big disappointment in the future.

I know John Piper believes anything a public figure (including pastors) says in public is open to public critique without it being considered gossip. He wrote an article in early August about that. So, I'm guessing he had no idea that people would run with that comment and assume there was something between him and Driscoll.

I think it's a pomo thing to assume that if you disagree even slightly with someone that you are at odds. So, my new was of speaking to the pomo world is to preface everything with "I really like you no matter what, but I was thinking...."

Or, better yet, just call them Dutch-bags, which I'm assuming has something to do with the Dutch Reformed Movement! :-)

uh... yes, that is what i intended the meaningto be, or at least we can call it that... I'm telling everyone that you told me to call them "dutch bags".

Have to admit that your post was more succinct and to-the-point than mine. ;-)

Though I thought that Dr Piper's comments in his message on Sunday would've dispelled any doubt that there was a rift between him and Driscoll. For those who haven't heard it yet, DGM was nice enough to excerpt it for you. Short enough to hear the joke, but long enough to understand the Biblical point behind it.

Of course, being the t-shirt nut that I am, I had to take the idea one step further.

I realize that this is really old, but I had a discussion today that reminded me of this issue. Your "eat it" link (which was also on my post) is a 404 now. However, thanks to the wonders of the internet, it can still be found here now
