France: "It's getting better"...

Rioters defied a state of emergency that took effect Wednesday, as they looted and burned two superstores, set fire to a newspaper office and paralyzed France's second-largest city's subway system with a firebomb...However, the number of car burnings — a barometer for the unrest — dropped sharply, suggesting the movement lost steam. Overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, youths torched 617 vehicles, down from 1,173 the previous night, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said. Incidents were reported in 116 towns, down from 226 the night before.

Hey, France, yeah you. I understand you're happy that they're burning less Citroens and Renaults, but did you notice how they firebombed a subway? Yeah, so now the newspapers will say "Subway Bombed in Paris." Now last time a subway was bombed in Europe, the people that did it were caught, and the police cracked down to ensure public safety. But you guys are acting like this is a 2 year-old's temper tantrum in the middle of Wal-Mart. You can't just let them "cry it out" or "get it out of their system." If you guys give in, like you did in 1968, then you have effectively ended any pretense at democracy or government by the people. So stand up, brush off your pants, and get out there and quit being such a wussy!
